This is the place where the family of the last Russian tsar Nikolai II was shot down at night between the 16th and 17th of July of 1918. These tragic events took place in the house of engineer Ipatiev, which was situated here. The house was ruined in 1977 by the order of the local government: too many people were interested in the history of the house.
The family of the last Russian tsar (Nikolai himself, his wife Alexandra, four their daughters: Olga, Tatyana, Anastasiya and Maria and their son Aleksey – the heir of the Russian throne) were brought to Yekaterinburg in May of 1918 from the exile in Tobolsk to Moscow.
