How to overcome alcohol abuse?
Alcohol abuse among the elderly is a widespread problem all over the world. It is hard to discover by medical providers, because many of these people have been abusing alcohol secretly for years. People are unlikely to admit that they have problems with alcohol, especially during an ordinary health care visit. There are many reasons why people drink and the same amount of the effects, which can be negative and we should undertake a number of solutions in order to prevent dangerous influence of alcohol on our life.
Many people drink as their way to fit in with others, because they like the taste or they simply want to relax. Alcohol often boosts their confidence and helps reduce stresses they may usually have in a social setting. The next highest reason why many people drink is because they like the taste. That makes beer or the many mixed drinks available: people do simply enjoy the taste of these beverages. Next, people drink to relax or feel at ease. One of the problems with this is that many people get used to feeling at ease and relaxed and start to rely on alcohol to make them feel that way everyday. At this point, the reliance on alcohol can eventually turn into an addiction which can lead to destructive behaviors and health problems.
The primary care physician plays an important role in making the diagnosis and in helping the older alcoholic receive proper medical and psychological care. As patients grow older and develop conditions that require prescription, opportunities for dangerous alcohol interactions increase. Elderly patients should be encouraged to monitor their alcohol intake so that it does not conflict with their medications. Increased social support may be all that is needed to stop excessive alcohol consumption by some older patients.
To sum up, though, alcohol has many negative effects on our body and on our life, in most cases people can`t find the point of reducing while using alcohol and we, of cause, shouldn`t close the eyes to this problem. Otherwise, the popularity will slowly be dyeing of different deceases produced by alcohol.
