Should all buildings be knocked down after 50 years?

Nowadays cities are growing very fast and so is the number of modern buildings. But there isn’t usually enough space in towns, so the question is can we get rid of all old buildings for the new ones to be built?

Personally, I think that it depends on the type of the construction. Firstly, the old buildings shouldn’t be knocked down because of their historical meaning. They make it easier for us to learn about the past and explore the life of our ancestors. Secondly, all buildings were constructed for purpose, so now they’re all the part of an architectural ensemble that makes each city special.

However, some people have another point of view. They say that old houses are expensive to maintain as they need a major repair. Moreover, residential buildings like apartment blocks must be destroyed or re-build after 50 years as they are out of the service ability and dangerous.

Nevertheless, we should remember that old buildings are financially useful because they attract many tourists, for example such buildings like castles, houses where the great people lived or those in The Old Towns.

In conclusion, I’d like to say that this issue is very controversial. Regardless of different opinions, I believe that we should preserve old buildings that create spiritual look of the city and knock down others after 50 years in order to provide a safety life for us.
